BANKSY "Donkey Documents". Piece salvaged from Bethlehem. Aerosol spray paint on stone composite wall. App. 320 x 200 cm. Spray paint on concrete wall. This mural is co-owned by MultiplesInc Projects, Denmark and Still Kicking Gallery, Malmoe, Sweden.
Created in bethlehem, Banksys controversial mural depicts a donkey having it´s papers checked by an armed Israeli soldier, mocking the stringent security measures enforced by the the Israeli government. The piece is part of a series created by Banksy along the concrete barrier dividing the Palestinian West Bank from Israel in 2007 and was made to promote his holiday fundraiser exhibition "Santa´s Ghetto". The work featured shortly after on Banksys own website.
Most Banksy murals has been restored. This one has not. It was cut just after it was painted. The mural goes with 6 hrs of video footage showing the work before cut, when cut and after it was cut. White coolant was poured on the saw to cool it down. As shown in the video. The local background graffiti was made with fruit color. Paint is hard to get because because of the blocade. The fruit color still washes easily off with water.
The work is stored at a secure Art Storage Facility in NYC and ships worldwide.
